Name: Geophagus Proximus
Geophagus proximus is a large cichlid from the Amazon system in Peru and Brazil, found from the Río Ucayali along the Solimões-Amazon to the Rio Trombetas, mostly in the lower reaches of rivers and in floodplain lakes with clear and black water. It's a rare one in the hobby, and its name is often attached to shipments of other Geophagus species. Look out for the dark cheek marking, the flanks without bars and the large, roughly oblong marking along the middle of the body.
