Natural botanicals such as Ketapang leaves and cholla wood also provide surfaces for biofilm to grow on, a natural food source for shrimp. Leaves slowly release tannins that tint the water, which many keepers like for a more natural look. Ceramic caves are popular with plecos and dwarf cichlids for spawning.
