Plants give shrimp and small fish shelter, grazing surfaces and more stable water. Our selection focuses on slow-growing, low-maintenance plants that suit shrimp tanks, including Anubias, Bucephalandra, Java fern (Leptochilus pteropus), Echinodorus 'Iguazu' and Marimo moss balls. Most of them do not need CO₂, and epiphytes such as Anubias, Buce and Java fern can be tied to rock or wood instead of planted in the substrate.
Each product page lists difficulty, growth rate and lighting needs. For ideas on which plants work well with shrimp, read our post Eden: the best plants for shrimp tanks.
Live plants also help use up nitrates between water changes and give shrimp extra biofilm to graze on, which is especially useful for young shrimplets.
